What is this program? Charles County Government's Citizens Academy program is designed to help promote a better understanding of Charles County Government. This in-person program includes 11 classes, focusing on the operations of each County Government department as well as the opportunity to learn about affiliated agencies.
Why is this program important? This program is important because it promotes civic engagement and two-way dialogue between county government and the community. Graduates of the program become Citizens Academy Ambassadors. Ambassadors are encouraged to continue their engagement by participating in County Boards and Commissions and supporting future Citizens Academy cohorts.
Who can participate in this program? This program is open to anyone who lives, works, and/or plays in Charles County. Participants must also be at least 18 years old.
When is this program held? This program is held on Thursday nights from 6-9:30 p.m. The next Citizens Academy cohort is scheduled for Fall 2025.
Where is this program held? This program is primarily held in Waldorf, but participants will have the opportunity to visit a variety of locations throughout the county.
